Another Pratt Adventure

Times Square, NY on the hottest day in 54 years! July 22,2011

Hello all you lurkers and bloggers! I would like to introduce myself and family before starting my stories.

My name is Joyce Cass Pratt and my husband's name is Gary. We have been married for almost 38 years (Yes to each other...lol).

Gary travels with a mobility scooter and I use a Seeing Eye dog. We both have challenges to face and barriers to break down. As you already know, there are lots of barriers out there for folks with disabilities and unless we are out there living life, the barriers may not come to the attention of those who have the power and means to abolish them.

We are very excited about the goals and vision of BFA and hope to provide some feedback and stories that will assist others in their travels.

Gary, me and Kia, my guide dog, travel quite a bit and have the same frustrations that some of you may be facing. We are both retired and have the time and the spirit to be adventurous. We are getting a little older, so that has its own challenges in regards to stamina. We are careful planners, especially when we will be going to a new location.
As much as we plan, things still go wrong and we are misled at times to what accomodations are available for the disabled.

We are looking forward to sharing the good and bad stories relating to traveling with disabilties.

Who Are Those Guys???

It's one of my favorite lines in one of my favorite movies and as we begin this new adventure that is Barrier Free Adventures it comes to mind as something that might be up front in the minds of folks who will be visiting, and participating in this new community, over the next few days, weeks, months, and years.

You can of course find out a little bit about the two guys who founded the company over at the About Us page and we'll be adding some more info about what's behind us, and in front of us, as we move further along in the short range future. Right here and right now, it seems important to mention something about what Barrier Free Adventures means and why we're struggling toward this new existence.

BFA is founded on a set of very important principles as it relates to the world, and all the people in it. As a company, and as individuals, we believe:

• That all people have the right, and should have the opportunity, to participate fully in all aspects of society.
  
  
• That the exclusion of one is an exclusion of all.
  
  
• That travel (locally as well as far from home) expands and enlarges the world in general, as well as the indivdual who travels.
  
  
• That we presently live at a time when the resources of technology and design are enabling people to explore and discover the world in ways that not too long ago would have been close to impossible.
  
  
• That as individuals, and as a society, we have the responsibility to help expand opportunity and growth wherever we can.
  

Barrier Free Adventures is conceived and launched with the intention of using the technology of the internet and the human resources of social media to bring together communities of people to share information, provide resources, and collectively create opportunities and experiences for travel, growth, learning, and conversation for all.
